World Changing…

While I’m on the topic of nature, I thought I’d recommend a book I picked up this week and even though I’m not finished reading it (it’s enormous) it has already renewed me with desire to be a more thoughtful human being. It’s called World Changing: A User’s Guide for the 21st Century.

It’s a beautiful book designed by the folks over at Sagmeister Inc. and edited by Alex Steffen. It’s a collection of a variety of green-themed articles such as “Creating Healthy Homes,” “The Hidden Vitality of Slums,” and “Creating Rural Sustainability in the Global South.”

Like I said, this book is HUGE, but will undoubtedly be one of my favorites for years to come. Check it out, yo.

Arbor Day

Maya Lin and the great people over at whatismissing.net (a beautiful site, btw. GO. NOW.) are behind this great video that I thought would be especially appropriate to salute today of all days.

Happy Arbor Day, everyone! Thank the trees for being so amazing!

FOXY: Shesh

Um, Michelle Pfeiffer turns 52 today. 52!! She still looks like gold. I hope the young girls (and Derek) who watch The Hills, will take a step back and let Shesh show them how it’s done!

Happy Birthday, Shesh. And here’s to growing old, semi-naturally!

Never Let Me Go

I finally finished Never Let Me Go and I was actually very satisfied by the end. It was written by Kazuo Ishiguro, who also wrote The Remains of the Day, and Never Let Me Go unfolds similarly to that book. Sometimes it feels slow, but as you read, you realize you’ve come a long way in deeply relating to the characters and understanding the state of the world in which they live.

Never Let Me Go has a Sci-fi twist thrown into the mix, but I wouldn’t exactly describe this book as being science fiction. Rather, it is more of a gentle, literary study of humanity, ethics and existentialism. By the end of the book, without giving anything away, I was left reflecting about what I call meaningful, sacred, and humane.

If you’re looking for something to read, check this one out. It’s a good one.

Bea Arthur Day

Yesterday marked the 1-year anniversary since Bea Arthur passed away and I so had a moment of silence.

I MISS BEA!

Clarissa

It’s a real special gal’s B-day today: my good friend, Clarissa. I love this girl so much because she is a riot. I always have fun when I see her and she makes me feel like a million dollars.

Hope it’s the best!

P.S. Nice pose…

Oceans

Last night, I saw Oceans in IMAX to celebrate Earth Day and I loved it. Even though this documentary only skims the surface, it is undeniably gorgeous and fun to watch. But I like this kind of stuff, so…

I love all animals, but I have ALWAYS had a very special place in my heart for otters and was very happy to see them in this movie, smashing shellfish on the rocks they keep on their bellies as they float around. I was also fascinated with the gorgeous segments on the ribbon eel, the blanket octopus, the dugong, and the massive spider crab gatherings in Australia. If you like the BBC’s nature documentaries like Planet Earth and The Blue Planet, then you really should check out this movie. It has footage of creatures, namely blue, humpback, and sperm whales, that I had never seen before.

If you do go see this movie I highly recommend you leave AS SOON AS the credits begin, because they play this song that makes me want to slit my wrists. It’s some duet by Demi Lovato and one of the Jonas Brothers. It hurts to even type about it. But you really have to be warned.

Here are some fun shots from the movie:

The Sandpit

I thought this was especially sexy. It reminds me of how small each moment is when compared to the hugeness of the universe.

Mom

Well my beautiful mom is celebrating her birthday, so I drank a couple Diet Coke’s on her behalf. My mom really is one of the funniest, most down to earth, loveliest, most amazing people I know. I love her more than words could even begin to express. Here she is 30 years ago with me in my red suspenders, and my cousin, Jennifer in her blue suspenders.

Happy Birthday, Ma! I love you!!

Scared kitty

Just because.

The Secret Project project

My beautiful and talented friend, Kate, has a project for you! Click on the image below to find out what it is. And then go and do it!

How to Train Your Dragon

If I could get y’all to see one movie in the next few weeks, it would be How to Train Your Dragon in 3D. The movie tackles the “can’t-we-all-just-get-along” theme but does it in a genuinely gorgeous way. The unique score by John Powell and supporting song “Sticks and Stones” by Jónsi of Sigur Rós, made me love it even more. Kristen Wiig, Gerard Butler, and Ugly Betty voice some of the main characters. And who doesn’t love them?

I can’t stop smiling while thinking about it. Check it out when you can. The more 3D, the better.

Easter fambly outing

Easter was very memorable this year. I went to Cape Meares, Oregon with some amazing friends and we had so much fun.

Though, I should have killed Kristen last.

Happy Easter

I’ll be on the Oregon coast this weekend so I wanted to post this today. When you look at the pic of the bunny below, I want you to imagine Oprah Winfrey saying, “HAPPPPYYY EEEEAASTTERRRR!” and I think it will make you chuckle. Maybe not.

Either way, I do want to cuddle this bunny like Lennie Small and wish you all a very happy, safe, Cadbury-egg-filled Easter.

National Find-A-Rainbow Day

Tomorrow is National Find-A-Rainbow Day. I can’t think of anyone who is looking forward to tomorrow as much as Taylor. I hope that as you are all doing whatever you do before Easter Sunday, that you’ll look out for a rainbow somewhere and remember what a beautiful and wonderful thing it is.

Oh and P.S. I don’t have Dolly Parton’s Rainbow album yet. hint hint

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day

I’m here to remind you that today is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. A good peanut butter and jelly sandwich is probably one of my favorite things to stuff in my face, besides my friend Christy.

If you’re not allergic to peanuts (like my poor niece, Mikell. She can’t even eat Nutella!) then please go enjoy yourself a huge, crunchy, sloppy, juicy, peanut-y, jelly-y, PB&J today!

Today’s the day to have one!
