Kennedy

My niece Kennedy was born a few weeks before I got home from my mission in Brazil. I can hardly believe she’s already twelve years old! Yikes. I’m old. Kennedy has blossomed into one of the most un-awkward preteens that I’ve ever known. She’s so nice, fun, cool and normal and I love her so much.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Kennedy! I love you!

Leeah

This cute little gal just turned two and I had to post these adorable pics of her. This is my niece, Leeah, and I don’t know if I’ve ever met such an adorable little rascal in all my life. She is so confident and has no qualms with telling strangers what to do or where to go. She makes me laugh so much and warms my heart more than anyone.

Happy Birthday, Leeah. I love you!

Logan

Logan is seriously so hilarious. Who would have thought a 6-year-old could reduce me to tears from laughing so hard? He is the best kid and the best nephew and I love him so dang much. Today is his birthday and he is turning 7 years old. I love this kid and I hope he never changes.

Logan: Hey did you see that movie called Taylor?
Taylor: Yeah, it was amazing.
Logan: Well… Um… It looked like Abraham Lincoln! Boo-yah!

Happy Birthday, LoLo.

UGG Prints

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who made my birthday so amazing. All of the text messages, phone calls, emails, cards, Facebook comments and comments here on my blog were really touching and I can honestly say “I love you guys” and I truly mean it. This week has been a tough one for me in a lot of ways and I owe so much of my happiness and sanity to the people who listen to me, who love me, and who call me their friend. You know who you are. Thanks.

To show my gratitude, I wrote a poem. A poem I call UGG Prints.

UGG Prints
by Jason Campbell

One night I totally dreamed I was walking in the mall with my BFF, Jacie.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the retractable glass ceiling.

In each scene I noticed tons of UGG boots footprints. Sometimes there were two sets of UGG boots footprints, other times there were only one set of UGG boots footprints.

This totes bugged. And I was all, when my shopping bags were way heavy from the MAC sale and the Macy’s sale and stuff, there was only one set of UGG boots footprints. So I was all, “Hey Jacie, WTF? When I was sad and tired and stuff you totes bailed!”

Then Jacie was like, “The times when you only saw one sets of UGG boots footprints I was in Nordies buying more UGG boots, but I totally caught up with you, betch!”

And I was all, “Whatever!”

If any of you would like a signed copy of UGG Prints written in Zapfino on fuzzy, mall-art background, just send a request to my email, along with a mailing address. And it’s free!

Me

I’ve been reading in my mom’s journal the past few months and I was obviously really touched by the entry dated January 29, 1978.

“Christmas and New Year’s came and went without much excitement on my part because of being pregnant. I felt like my New Year would begin when the baby came. My due date was February 20th and lo and behold, on January 21st, he came. He weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and was 21 inches long. His name will be Jason Grant. Because of his size they thought he was on time but then he had a few problems. They said he acted like he had a diabetic mother (me). So his blood sugar was low and his calcium was low. I had him on Saturday at 4:12 PM and when we went down to see him at 7:00 PM he was under oxygen. I cried because it scared me so bad. When he was born I had hoped he would be a girl. Then when I saw him having trouble, all i wanted was for him to be well. I came home from the hospital on Tuesday and Jason (because of jaundice) stayed until Thursday. Jason has sure been a good baby and I love him so much. The Lord has been good to us.”

I thought that was pretty cute.

The Best Three Weeks of Our Lives, Part VI

Tomorrow, Celeste Cooning will kick off The Best Three Weeks of Our Lives, Part VI and I can’t believe it’s already been six years since it began!

For those of you who don’t know, TB3WOOL began 6 years ago when I met Cebestie and Andreally Pretty in our respective graduate programs at the University of Washington. We soon realized we were all born in 1978 within three weeks of each other and the rest is history. Of course we celebrate our birthdays normally, but TB3WOOL is a great way for us to acknowledge our friendship and our genuine love for each other. It is also a perfect excuse to go effing nuts.

Jill

I’ve been bad at my birthday wishin’ tradition. But in my head I NEVER FORGET! And it’s crazy because I just passed my one year marker for this blog and so now I’m going to start repeating people! Where the F did 2010 go?!

Jill and I have been friends for… let’s see… almost 25 years. (HOLY CRAP!!) She and I went to Nerd School together from 4-6 grade and we’re still friends and still find times to chat. Now she lives in New Zealand with her totally awesome husband, Shea and I can’t wait to go visit. Her beautiful mom, Cora, passed away a year ago from cancer and she and I have bonded a lot over the deaths of our moms. Jill has been a huge comfort and a sensitive and loving friend.

I love you, Jill. Wishing you the BEST birthday in the world!!

Susie

All week I have been meaning to post a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my friend, Susie. I have known Susie since before kindergarten and I’ve known her longer than any other friend. We were in the same classes throughout kindergarten and grade school and I’m so glad that we’re still BFFs, even though we are on totally opposite sides of the continent.

Happy Birthday, Susie. Here’s to 33 more years of being friends! I love you!

Tom

I love and miss Mr. Futrell more than words can say. He is such a kind, sharp, intelligent, fun, and talented piece of work.

Wishing you the best birthday New Orleans has to offer, good friend. Cassie and I miss you so much. You’re all we think about.
